Just finish the On-Board Air install this weekend and wanted to post some updated pics.
Going after the rear bumper/tire carrier next but can't decide what to go with.

Suggestions welcome.......
I'm really happy with my expedition one bumper and tire carrier.

I've got the Shrockworks rear stubby coming (hopefully showing up next week!). It's the same bumper that Mark runs, only mine is a stubby. I had them add a hole on the driver's side for my CB antenna b/c I didn't want to have to rerun the cable (plus I have an extra place for a future antenna if I go the HAM radio route), and a cutout on the driver's side between the reverse light (one of the reasons went with Shrockworks) and the tire recessed area for my 7pin trailer plug. I current have a popup camper, but this would also offer me the capability to do a trailer in the future with or without trailer brakes, and have the plugin protected (not hanging from the bottom).

Once it comes in, I'll finally post up some pics in this thread.

If We're talking overlanding.. . you should try to make everything multi-task if possible... To that end... I'm a big fan of the AEV bumper... which carries, and distributes water.. The tire carrier can also accomidate an additional 10 gallons of fuel the the addition of their fuel tank.

I've seen cooler looking rear bumpers.... but I'm not sure I've seen more functional ones.

There's more to the story. We had taken a 12 mile dirt road between two highways that was on our paper maps. However, about 2 miles from the other highway was a closed gate with a huge sign saying something to the effect, "Due to a land swap with the BLM, this property is now private. Trespassers will be prosecuted!!!" So our 12 mile planned route turned into a 50 mile detour. That, and the closed gas station, caused our fuel calculation error.

I like the expedition one set up as well. How does the hi-jack mount....vertically or horizontally?

I have the Ex One carrier and bought their $70 Hi-Lift kit - I didnt bolt it on and dont like it, it mounts the Hi-Lift horizontally, the perfect height to smack you in the face or shoulder when opening the trunk.

Now, the Expedition One bumper and tire carrier is superb !! Easy home installation and opens smoothly with the trunk door. I wanted full width rear protection, and this is the most wide, solidly built rear JK bumper IMO.

I'm waiting for the spring release of their Rotopax gas can holder, and will then secure my Hi-Lift to that, or make some brackets to mount it diagonally along the tire carrier frame.

I agree with the AEV bumper, 5gal built in and an option for a discreet 10gal fuel caddy, if i had the dough that would already be on my heep

So, as a general rule of thumb, if we plan for around 400 miles we should be fine on a typical overland trip? Does it cover most cases of not having the gas stations around?

See I think that way too, but I still question where the pump pickup is in the tank... The tank is very long and appears to be pretty flat. I cannot see a point in the tank that sits any lower than the rest. I would guesstimate that a gallon of gas in the tank would give less than 1/4 inch of depth for the pump to pick up. I would assume that the tank is baffled or at a minimum has foam in it to keep the gas from sloshing too much.

Has anyone dropped a tank and physically looked at the pickup to see just how far you can push it? I had a nice long downhill once coming into the Vegas valley and I pushed it for 25-30 miles and ended up putting almost 21 gallons in. I was worried the whole time until I got to the gas station too

That's great feedback. I'll tell you that the Expedition One set-up wasn't even on my radar before yesterday and now it seems to be the most likely option.
