Hey guys,
This is probably a dumb question, but this is going to be my first special order Jeep. When you place the order at the dealership, is all of the paperwork for financing/trade-in/down payment done at the time that you place the order, or is everything signed/trade-ins/down-payment processed when you receive the Jeep at the dealership from the factory?
I am going to be ordering a new JK soon and I just want to have a heads up. Thanks, everyone!

I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but when I ordered mine, I already had the pricing figured out for TreadLightly (search for it, you can get a Jeep at 1% below invoice with no haggling whatsoever) so I knew what I'd be spending. I had my dealer (I've known this salesperson for years now, bought 2 vehicles from him this will be the 3rd) throw the order together so I could inspect it... his figure was spot on so I had him give me a figure for my trade. They offered to take my vehicle same day and pay it off for that trade amount, but I declined. They told me they'd need to re-evaluate my trade at the time of pickup as that's where the financing/payment would all come into play... no biggie though, as long as I keep it under 10k miles (according to my dealer, who I have a working relationship with). Oh - I also had to throw $500 down for the order. I'm also in the process of trying to sell my trade outright to see if I can get a few more grand, but I'm not too worried about it.
So long story short, I figured out what I'd be looking at before I ordered it, though it's not set in stone until the vehicle actually comes in. I haven't signed any paperwork around financing or rates and they haven't run any credit or anything like that, though I know where I stand. If you don't already have a working relationship with a dealer, shop around for one that is mod friendly and then shop around to local credit unions for the lowest auto rates and get pre-approved through them so you don't have to fiddle with gimmicks when you show up. Those pre-approvals are usually good for like 90 days, depends on the institution though.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

By the way... for anyone on the fence about the black leather... JUST DO IT! I live near San Antonio, TX so I know what hot summers are and I was on the fence big time about the leather and heated seats... well, on our test drive, we got to use the heated seats and the leather package just felt so much nicer to me (my opinion of course). No question in my mind anymore, the black leather is super badass - wayyyy glad I ordered it.
About my Jeep build being hung up - I told my sales dude what Jeep told me and he said "that's impossible. They sent us an invoice for your Jeep already earlier this month and told us it would hit our lot by the end of February. When we get invoices that means we can start telling people 'this Jeep is on it's way - want to buy it before it comes in?'. That's why I told you it would be here by the end of February." That sort of blew my mind. I don't work in the auto industry so I don't know how true that is... but I've got my fingers crossed. I stopped in too late to talk to the guy who handles all the orders as he was out, so they're going to verify all this on Monday and figure out what the disconnect is with Jeep (though I don't think they'll be able to). He said early March at the latest but he's positive that Jeep told them it was coming in on their shipment later this month as they received all the invoices for that shipment and he said he's 99% positive it's already been built.
I hope there is some truth to this cause he got my hopes up. Way up. We shall see come Monday morning, I guess.

Ordered Jan 3rd, picked up Feb 19th. It sat in Atlanta for a week at the rail yard waiting on the truck to pick it up and bring it over to me an hour away. I read where Jeep changed truck delivery people and they are behind.
Had a cut in the door trim, and a bad scuff in the sound bar trim right at eye level when the doors are off. Dealer is replacing those two parts.
Bad thing is it had a defect in the paint about the size of a nickel, looks like a smudge or ripples in the silver paint then they cleared on top of it. It is on the door frame, but it is on the side of the frame about eye level next to the window. You only see it when you open the door. Dealer said they want to buff, polish, airbrush if needed to fix it. Trying to decide if I should do it or live with it. They didn't have another silver on the lot to swap doors. Who knows if the next silver one they get will be made from the same batch of paint. Could it be a slightly different color, like lot numbers in wallpaper and paint?
They ain't made like Honda's but I am glad I have one finally.

kneeman, the bad news is that you have a few flaws. The good news is that you are under full warranty. You have the problems fully documented and it is on the dealer to make it right. Let them swap a new door, repaint, whatever... it is up to them to fix it. And they will, or at least should. Otherwise you have a claim.
When I bought my 2 door early 2007, the face of the radio was all scratched up. The lower left driver seat on my butt padding was also already messed up/flattened. They replaced the stereo and fixed the seat padding on their dime. Should do the same for you. My guess is they'll call you when a silver door comes in and hope the next guy doesn't notice. Paint should all be identical. Either way, you should have it fixed under warranty, regardless. You have identified the problem, and you have a right to have it fixed to perfect condition under warranty.
So I've always wanted one and could never justify a FUN car or truck.
