Thngs you'll never do to your Jeep. The critic's thread.
My big beef is with mods which make your Jeep less safe to you and to other drivers when driven on the road, especially when your Jeep will never ever see any offroad miles that would necessitate any aftermarket mods. Primary offenders are lift, mud tires/oversize tires, heavy steel bumpers. I mean, if you want to make your Jeep look a certain way and it has no detrimental affect on safety or the performance of safety equipment on your vehicle or its interaction with other vehicles, then I really don't care. Decals, different tops, your choice of wheels, etc. Whatever. But for the mall crawler with the 35" tires that have doubled the stopping distance and 4" lift and put on a 200 lb steel front bumper so when you can't stop in time to prevent rear-ending another vehicle you do about 10x as much damage to the unsuspecting driver in front of you and their car ... well I have zero tolerance for that. It's irresponsible, immature, and selfish beyond any measure. Whatever mods you want on a strictly off-road vehicle, well that's your business, I don't care. Do what you want. You crash into a tree or rock, well I am not so concerned about the damage you do to the tree or rock. But I am concerned when my family and friends, along with other fellow human beings, are being subjected to your unsafe vehicle on the roads just because you think you look cooler with a big lift, tires, and bumpers.
Removing the seven slot grill and replacing it with the stupid mesh flat thing you find on a pickup truck

i bought my bumpers specificaly because i seen what they can do to a civic. If some one hits me im not worried about their safety im worried about mine and having minimal damage done to my vehicle.
Its nice to know that you have an advantage. Of course it doesn't warrant driving like an a hole, but provides security from those aggressive and ridiculous drivers we all see everyday.
I'm not going to be less adequately protected under the guise that I have nothing to fear.

I totally agree in personal responsibility. Just wondering why you feel obligated to tell others what they can do with their $$$ on their vehicle. "Immature & Irresponsible". I feel as long as I'm responsible I should be able to purchase what I want. Same with guns & our 2nd amendment. Maybe there are those out there who shouldn't. Good luck with your crusade. My jeep has never hurt anything or anyone. Hopefully it will protect me and my family if a drunk hits us. Same principle applies to the firearms I own.
Last time I checked the modifications to my jeep (and 99.9% of others) are within the law, just not within your personal opinion.

And FWIW huge tires, a lift, 200-ft stopping distance from 60mph and 400lb worth of bumpers is not going to protect you or your family from a drunk driver. If you are serious about protecting your family from a drunk driver, a Wrangler is a terrible choice of vehicle, as someone else pointed out in this thread in some misguided attempt to cast me as some kind of car safety nut. What these mods do is make it more likely you will kill people with your own vehicle without adding anything to make you more safe.
