I mean, if you want to make your Jeep look a certain way and it has no detrimental affect on safety or the performance of safety equipment on your vehicle or its interaction with other vehicles, then I really don't care. Decals, different tops, your choice of wheels, etc. Whatever. But for the mall crawler with the 35" tires that have doubled the stopping distance and 4" lift and put on a 200 lb steel front bumper so when you can't stop in time to prevent rear-ending another vehicle you do about 10x as much damage to the unsuspecting driver in front of you and their car ... well I have zero tolerance for that. It's irresponsible, immature, and selfish beyond any measure. Whatever mods you want on a strictly off-road vehicle, well that's your business, I don't care. Do what you want. You crash into a tree or rock, well I am not so concerned about the damage you do to the tree or rock. But I am concerned when my family and friends, along with other fellow human beings, are being subjected to your unsafe vehicle on the roads just because you think you look cooler with a big lift, tires, and bumpers.

Last time I checked, personal responsibility was a Republican principle, and considering one's self above the law is very Clintonesque.

i bought my bumpers specificaly because i seen what they can do to a civic. If some one hits me im not worried about their safety im worried about mine and having minimal damage done to my vehicle.

Its nice to know that you have an advantage. Of course it doesn't warrant driving like an a hole, but provides security from those aggressive and ridiculous drivers we all see everyday.

I'm not going to be less adequately protected under the guise that I have nothing to fear.

I totally agree in personal responsibility. Just wondering why you feel obligated to tell others what they can do with their $$$ on their vehicle. "Immature & Irresponsible". I feel as long as I'm responsible I should be able to purchase what I want. Same with guns & our 2nd amendment. Maybe there are those out there who shouldn't. Good luck with your crusade. My jeep has never hurt anything or anyone. Hopefully it will protect me and my family if a drunk hits us. Same principle applies to the firearms I own.

So, as I said. You've placed your friends and family in danger by driving that jeep with such low safety ratings. You should burn it to the ground so that no others can't risk lives with it and then purchase the smart car I referenced so that you don't endanger others so much.

Last time I checked the modifications to my jeep (and 99.9% of others) are within the law, just not within your personal opinion.

I thought this was the "Things you'll never do to your Jeep. The critic's thread". If you don't want to read criticisms and opinions about modifications, then I suspect reading this thread is not the best idea.

Sure, I agree. But my point here is the mods you do increase the probability that you will have an accident, to a degree that makes it beyond your control. So my analogy with firearms might be getting drunk and then carrying a firearm. Carrying a firearm by a responsible person is perfectly safe and awesome. But doing something to intentionally diminish your capacity to maintain control of that potentially dangerous thing is unsafe and irresponsible. To me, doesn't matter whether it's a car or a firearm. But in the case of firearms, we have a constitutional guarantee that our right will not be infringed, but you have no constitutional right to own a Jeep or any vehicle or to drive a car at all, and certainly no constitutional right to make deliberate modifications to a vehicle that reduce the margin of control you have to drive it safely.

Good luck with your crusade. My jeep has never hurt anything or anyone. Hopefully it will protect me and my family if a drunk hits us. Same principle applies to the firearms I own.
I'm not on any crusade. This thread is about opinions. I'm no more on a crusade than the guys who don't like chrome tube bumpers or stickers on Jeeps. But just like the dufuses here in TX who (legally!) open-carry AR15s into Starbucks just to stick it in the face of a private business tend to give all gun owners and gun rights advocates a bad name, Jeep owners who insist on making their vehicles less safe and then drive them on the road make all Jeep owners look bad, legal or not. Just makes us look like a bunch of self-centered jerks. Actually I think we are a bunch of self-centered jerks.

And FWIW huge tires, a lift, 200-ft stopping distance from 60mph and 400lb worth of bumpers is not going to protect you or your family from a drunk driver. If you are serious about protecting your family from a drunk driver, a Wrangler is a terrible choice of vehicle, as someone else pointed out in this thread in some misguided attempt to cast me as some kind of car safety nut. What these mods do is make it more likely you will kill people with your own vehicle without adding anything to make you more safe.
