Any recent Kargomaster installs?

I'd like to get one for my 2 door, but wonder if they've addressed the fitment issues that were being spoke of early in the thread.

Also, any forum vendors carry the rack?

Good to hear. I like that in its most basic form it's strong, simple and affordable.

I had a Kargomaster Bushman rack on my ZJ years ago and though it was great. Very solid gear.

Have you tried to take it off for storage? I don't intend to leave it on all the time. Most likely take it off unless I'm going to load the canoe or camp gear soon.

 

I was wondering about this too. How much extra work does it take to put the top up/down the the rack installed?

Everything in this thread was spot on. I replaced the shipped bolts with the correct size bolts for the bumper attachment. That was a real pain putting those in. I did the whole install myself, definitely recommend a helper. After install I added the rubber bumper to the rack in the front to prevent any inadvertent contact between rack and windshield edge. I also did the rope wrap to reduce wind convection. Ah, and I did end up using my own silicone the Kargo one was crap. I'd post pics but it's late I'll put up some tomorrow. It is a great rack no doubt!

 

Do you have a soft top? Any insight on how much extra work it'd take to put top up/down?

 

I haven't read this thread in awhile. I don't know what all has been said but this is how mine went less than one year ago: I odered mine from 4wd and it took forever to get here. It ships directly from KM. I was so excited when it arrived. Then I realized it didn't have the frame mounts or hardware. After several conversations with Marssel? I finally got the rest of it. It (JKU) doesn't have any risers for the soft top but it clears it. I had to get a couple of different bolts to mount the frame supports on the back as nothing in the kit seemed to fit. The install was very easy except for lining up the front tubes with the windshield mounts. They didn't seem to lineup quite right. I later realized that smaller washers would alleviate the problem.

All that said, after I got it on, it is awesome. It takes a few minutes more to take the top down as you have to remove the font two bolts. I would do it again.

 

I have a hard top. As I understand it, you pop off the two front bolts, prop your rack with the prop bar and roll your top back. I still have'nt gotten around to any close up pics yet, gah I am a slacker.

 

Should give you a better idea of gap between rack, crossbars and roof as well as the mounts and such. Good luck !
