Only problem is that puts the winch in front of the lower frame rail that can protect it, but to fix that problem, a front skid should work.
Most likely your winch will hit the fog lights if you try to move it that close to the front.

Correct on fog light issue. Mounting just in front of sway bar disco, doesn't seem to interfere with disco. I will post pic's once I figure out how to.

Well finally got the winch in. Still need to do some cosmetics where the flairhead sit, and mount the front license plate with a hinge here is a pic of how tight it is. Disconnected the sway bar, and reconnected it, so doesn't look like any interference with operation. But will have to test it offroad.

Ill post better pics when I get a chance, but basic install is same as everyone else did. Lower part of metal bumper needs to be trimmed to be able to get you hand and ratchet in to be able to bolt the metal bumper back on. If you plan on keeping factory air dam, make sure not to cut off mounting holes. Also since the front tow hooks go through the plastic bumper, its actually easier to remove the 8 nuts to tow hooks and remove the whole bumper from the jeep. Then once it is off remove the 4 bolts that hold the plastic bumper to the metal bumper. But first disconnect the fog lights, and with needle nose pliers pull the tabs out if the metal bumper that hold the wire in place

But to answer everyone's question whether or not this can be done with the Rubicon. Yes it can. I did mine with a smittybilt 8. Anything bigger may be too tight. I'll also post measurements later

So I have been subscribed to this thread for a while now and I still have one question. What is the largest winch I can get away with? My jeep is not a Rubicon.

You should be able to put any pulling size you want, just not a powerplant or a top mounted solenoid winch.

That's what I hoped the answer would be. I don't know why, but o want the biggest, most obnuxiously huge, most irresponsibly powerful winch I can find. Like this:

But I will probably end up with this:

http://ww w.warn.com/truck/winches/src/XD9000.shtml

I know it isn't necessarily needed, but would it be a good idea to go ahead and get a bigger altenator?
