this looks like an amazing project. i wanted an aftermarket bumper that sat the winch down low like that. are you guys doing this as more of a weight savings over an aftermarket bumper or more of a cost savings? i would think the weight savings over an aftermarket bumper is considerable.

 

The weight factor is one that I never considered until I actually did this. Really glad i didn't buy some huge bumper, the winch alone is really heavy. But my primary reason was the cost effectiveness.

 

Where did you get that light bar on the bumper, love how that looks with the winch!

 

So, has anyone in the georgetown/austin texas area done this? I could use some guidance on this and I will pay you with beer!

I have only one wondering question...

If you mount the winch upside down, isn't the winch exposed to that much more of the elements (snow, salt, mud, etc)?
I really like the idea of this mod, but the exposure factor makes me wonder...
I have a synthetic line and I would assume the mud, etc. would really wear on the rope.. not to mention the winch components too.

What's everybody's thoughts?

Well I don't play in mud, so it hasn't been a concern for me. All the other elements of rain, etc. won't hurt it

 

I see - I just went down to my garage and checked it out.
I don't do mud, I just sent from casual trail riding, etc.

I just bought this thing a week ago. I sold my TJ and had to upgrade - I'm married now and we hope to have an addition to our family in the next year or so...

I have the mbrp light bar. Will the upside down plate affect mounting my light bar?
