Winch mount W/factory bumper
this looks like an amazing project. i wanted an aftermarket bumper that sat the winch down low like that. are you guys doing this as more of a weight savings over an aftermarket bumper or more of a cost savings? i would think the weight savings over an aftermarket bumper is considerable.
The weight factor is one that I never considered until I actually did this. Really glad i didn't buy some huge bumper, the winch alone is really heavy. But my primary reason was the cost effectiveness.
Thats the plate i used work great and you cant beat the price! with the factory bumper i cut with grinder 1" by 4" off of the front corners stack 3 washer under plate per bolt in the front then it sits nice and flat with the frame.Attachment 223825

Awesome idea! Looks great and clean/factory almost..
I have only one wondering question...
If you mount the winch upside down, isn't the winch exposed to that much more of the elements (snow, salt, mud, etc)?
I really like the idea of this mod, but the exposure factor makes me wonder...
I have a synthetic line and I would assume the mud, etc. would really wear on the rope.. not to mention the winch components too.
What's everybody's thoughts?

I see - I just went down to my garage and checked it out.
I don't do mud, I just sent from casual trail riding, etc.
Makes sense now...
I just bought this thing a week ago. I sold my TJ and had to upgrade - I'm married now and we hope to have an addition to our family in the next year or so...
These things are a little different than my TJ
