Yeah, turning the wheel when you're trying to pull someone puts a lot of stress on the axle shafts. I figured it was the front going by what looked like the tire below.

It's called an "Outer Axle Shaft", it looks like whatI toasted as well... but Northridge doesn't give any indication as to if this is a JK or a D30 or what... I am not even sure if those things matter here.

I am going to go search around to forum and see if anybody has a write up on this... brb.
It's a "Rubicon" outer axle shaft. Rubicon's have a D44 front (on the JK's atleast), so that's not the one for yours. I went to Northridge4x4's website and from the main site, you can click the link for JK Wrangler parts, and if you go into the Axles and Drive shafts sub section, the only Superior Axle shafts shown are around $499.00 (but those are also for the Rubicon D44 axle).

Yeah, lesson learned the hard way. In retrospect I feel like a complete idiot...

Big thanks to PainKiller and his friend for following me back home, and helping me get my Jeep back in my drive way!

Manoj, yeah, I saw that was for a Rubi... I am still trying to find the part I need. But, in general, shouldn't the write up be the same? Or is the front-end completely different in respect to how to replace the axle shaft?

I am just trying to get all my ducks in a row before I order anything. From the best I can tell, this is something I should be able to do on my own (with the help of a friend or two).

Speaking of that... who's up for a Jeep mod party in a couple of weeks

EDIT:

Oh, Manoj, you were quoting the link to the Rubicon shaft... yeah, my bad.... I thought you were quoting my link to the write up.... sorry guys, my mind is going a million to none.

Hehehe. That's understandable Jason . Talking of which, we already have a mod party set up for this Sunday (weather permitting). If not, we will re-schedule to a later date.

In the meantime, here's the part it appears that you need. That might be the whole axle though - I didn't spend much time looking to see if they just had the Outer Axle Shaft - I'm sure they do. But here's the link on Quadratec's website. Maybe someone with more info on this will chime in soon enough. Alloy USA also seems to have the full entire kit with Chrome-moly axle shafts for around $699 or so on their site. Being that yours is an X, you'll need the 27-spline shaft for the D30 axle.

But then again, if you're planning on doing the whole axle, instead of just the outer shaft, I'd highly recommend going for the RCV Axle shafts and call it a day. Here is the link on Northridge4x4's site:

Awesome, thanks for the Quadratec link. I think you are right, I think that is the part I need. The 4WD link I posted is the whole kit (drive and passenger) where as the Quadratec link is only the driver's side.

If I can afford it, I think it might be wise to replace both sides... I don't know. It just seems like if there was enough force to sheer off that whole axle end and the u-joint then that surely wasn't good for the passenger side as well... just thinking out loud.

As far as the mod party... I doubt that my Jeep will make it that far until I fix it. I limped home at 10 miles an hour, and that one driver's side "nub" of a u-joint that was left kept clicking and engaging with the "nug" of the axle side that was still there causing my Jeep to want to jerk it's steering side to side

I wish... I really do. Unfortunately, my entire budget for this fix is $750, and I'd REALLY like to keep it as far below that as possible.

I am going to hold off an ordering anything today, and take the night to sleep on it. I don't want to rush into a purchase. It's not like UPS is running, and even if they were it's going to be like a week before the snow clears enough for me to get my Jeep in my garage

Agreed. In a lot of those cases, you might not see the damage done to the axle till you pull it out. As far as the mod party goes, if you can pull the shafts out and plug the axle openings and you should be able to drive around in 4x2 [RWD] mode.

Have you checked the For Sale thread to see if anyone had stock axle shafts for sale? I might be wrong on this, but also check with Mark Doiron - I thought he was getting ready for new axle shafts here soon as well, and if that's so, you might be able work something out with him on the stock shafts?

Hum... I'll keep that in mind. I'm still processing a LOT

Ok... silly question... whats the odds I broke something in else as well? Something in addition to the axle shafts and u-joints? I can't imagine I toasted my diff... is that even a chance?
