After I installed mine, my compass was showing south when I was going north and west when east etc, took off the cover and turned the unit around, then all it showed was south and southeast. I went to a parking lot and manually calibrated it and now everything is fine.

By the way, I leave my cell phone on top all the time and never had a problem, it is a quad band for AT&T and that goes for any other cell phone I have placed on top

Question

Just got one and installed it last night. First, the clip that was on the original panel that have to be removed got flung in the grass and it took me 30 minutes to find it because they are required. Finally got it, shoved the clips on, screwed the antenna on and tried to reseat the panel. It won't snap down. I may have squished the clips on too much so I back them off and sure enough lost one down the slot. AND the one I do have still doesn't lock down either. So now I'm trying to figure out a way of holding down the daystar panel to the dash with one clip.

If your having problems with your cell screwing things up make sure GPS location is set to off. This way it won't interfere. It will automatically turn on if you have to dial 911 which is the only time I would want it on anyway. I don't like the idea of the man knowing where I am

It has nothing to do with that. My cell phones don't have GPS location and still mess up the compass. It's just the magnetic field they generate.

OK... So where, when and how do I get one? I had an idea much like this but was gonna require some sheet metal and a brake...... I've got the sheet metal...just no brake: so this would be cool to just be able to buy/get.

OK...I installed my Daystar panel yesterday and now the compass is stuck on "SE" There is nothing on the panel like a cell phone or GPS that would cause any interference. I re-installed the compass unit as the instructions indicated using the screw holes provided. Is there any way to "reset" the compass?

It's in the owner's manual.

You hold in the button that switches the temp,MPG, etc and then drive in circles. The more you drive in circles while it's reprogramming the more accurate it'll be when you're done.

driving in circles ? ...I thought you were kidding I found the section in the manual related to manual calibration, thanks... Maybe I'll drive around the office parking lot in circles at lunch time...people will think I'm drunk.

Yeah, mine did that a few times also. I just stopped in a parking lot free from trees and waited a few minutes. I went into the view that shows how many satellites it sees and watched it jump from zero to 6.

Since I updated the firmware to v9.807 I have not seen the problem reappear.
