Are you sayin the yer steering was like 'squirelly'? Even when u weren't breaking? Since doin my lift mine kinda flosta all over the road

Yikes! I was feelin good about my $300+ dollar lift kit w/shocks but now thinking another $300-400 may be needed to keep it riding straight bothers me. I'm getting ready to dive into my lift today so now I'm even more nervous, hehe.

I drove the 2.5 TF lift with no new track bars, or anything for a long time, wheeled it hard, and never had any issues what-so-ever. My steering wheel was a little off, but that is an easy fix. Now I have extra 3/4" spacers in the front with the 2.5 spacers and a BDS relacation bracket for the rear and still no problems, even with 35's. The TeraFlex budget boost is awesome. Your rear axle will be shifted to the passanger side a little, but I drove with it like that for months and didn't even realize it was shifted, so I really don't think it will hurt anything.

a few tips to help the install go smooth...

1: to get the stock bump stops out, use a screw driver, stick it up thru the hole at the bottom, and then pull the screw driver to the side. the leverage will pull it out.

2: DO NOT PUT YOUR BUMP STOP EXTENSIONS ON THE FRONT UNTIL AFTER YOU PUT YOUR SPACERS ON!!! they are a pain to get out and in, and your spacers won't fit over top of them!!! Also use some grease to get the extensions in, they are mad tight!!!

3: When you are putting your springs back in the front, use a small bottle jack or the stock jack and wedge it in between the axle and the frame to help push the axle down to get the springs back in, you only need this for the passenger side I think (or which ever side seems too tight)

4: when you pull your shocks off and put them on, undo the bottom first, then after you loosen the top enough, you can spin the shock around with a wrench on the top to get it the rest of the way. also use some vise grips to hold the shock bolt while you loosen the nut.

5: Take your time, and if you get stuck or confused, check back on here and someone should be able to help you out.

6: oh yeah, the rear spacers will not go in all the way until you put some pressure on them buy lowering the JK back down, or jacking up the rear axle with the springs back in place. they are a very very very tight fit (which is good so they don't come loose).

To be fair here, I need to mention that I installed the HD kit which came with front springs. The springs are designed to level the JK at 2.5" after installing an aftermarket bumper and winch, neither of which I have installed yet, but they are on order.
My front is setting way high right now, which I'm sure contributed to my front axle shift. As I stated in an eariler post, both my front and rear shifted ~3/4", but in opposite directions, this is why it was a handfull to drive.
After the bumper and winch go on, I'll see if it needs a little tweak. I don't think it will, after we installed/adjusted the front track bar we simulated the weight of the bumper/winch combo and if the axle shifted it was minimal.

I wonder if the shorter wheel base, on top of the HD springs, of your 2dr added to your squirrelly experience. Our unlimited drives and brakes perfectly straight with the just the BB. It seems like the 2 doors are more "sensitive" to the axle shift then the 4 doors. (I know the physics say the longer the wheel base, the more stable a vehicle is traveling in a straight line)

did the lift on the rear yesterday.... bolts were easy enough to take out since the vehicle is still really new. It was still about a 4-5 hour two person job just for the rear. Mainly because finding all the right size sockets, tools, etc and you had to do one side at a time. I should have gotten two sets so both of us could have wrenched at the same time.

Oh and getting the coil spring spacers to pop in was a b*tch so I just propped them into place as we lifted the axle with the jack. One popped into place the other didn't make a sound and looked ok so I'm hoping it fit in there ok.


Tie-down/Ratching the axle so the track bar bolt would fit again was a little scary. Overall with the new shocks I gained 3 inches of lift in the rear.


Even with the rear lifted and front stock it seemed to drive just fine this morning and no noises or oddities that I could tell. The teraflex shocks may be a little stiffer compared to stock -- I'll know for sure when I do the front.

That's great, glad the rear went OK. I think the TF shocks are about 25% firmer than stock according to my seat-of-the-pants meter.

So I'm thinking the front is going to be a bit tougher because of the steering adjustment and front driveshaft disconnection. Is that true?

The rear had a few difficulties but not too bad, plus I was just getting the hang of things as this was my first lift and dealing with some new tools.
