You can see the holes in the last picture where they mount to the tub

they are also installed with nutserts, if your going to go with all the trouble of drilling 1/2 holes into the tub, I would suggest the Purejeeps, they wrap completely around the tub and stop at the frame. They are secured with steel rods and bolts for extreme strength.

they do have two holes with nutserts, at that spot it would require removal of seat belt brackets to make it work like the rest of the mounting points. So they opted for nutserts.

However since they are mounted to the bottom of the tub, like the stock rubicon rockers. It does not take away from the strength
The River Raiders extend about 2-3" past the pinch seem and they use well-nuts not nutserts(I know, same difference ) While I have been happy with the fit and protection of my RRs, I wish they mounted like the PJ's. The wellnuts are a pain and they can tear if you arent careful during install. At the JK-fest last year, I slid off of a rock and the rocker took the whole weight of the jeep on the outer tube. I didnt get any body damage(or even nick the tube), but I did knock the rail loose. So now I am in the process of upgrading the mounting system to mimick PJ's. I definitely wouldve gotten the PJ's if they wouldve been available at the time or even close to being available....

wow, that totally sucks. i've always assumed that something like that could happen but i'm sorry that it happend to you.

regarding the PJ sliders, not only do they have bolts that go all the way through the body with additional crush sleeves for added support but they also have bolts that secure it to the bottom of the sliders to your tub as well. from what i have seen, the rockers you have just stop at the pinch seam and offer no additional support at the bottom and i would guess that this was a contributing factor for your problems as well.

Yeah, it pissed me off, but at least I didnt have any damage.

And yep, they only go a lttile bit past the pinch seem. I think thats enough protection, but it does limit the mounting options. When I hit(and I did hit very hard), it forced the tube up making it act as a lever with the wellnuts becoming the fulcrum... they just tore and let the rail seperate from the body. Im currently making spacers and using longer bolts to tie the rails in to the inner body too. Hopefully that will make them strong enough, but if not, I'll be adding some steel on to them underneath so I can tie in from the bottom as well.

I just wish the PJs were available when I got these. But the 4dr PJs were just a vague rumor back then and no one seemed to have a clue when they would be out. I think I bugged David at N4x4 at least once a week I ended up getting impatient, so I got the RR instead and while they are well made and very beefy, the mounting system sucks!

yeah, that's what i figured. while the pinch seam lip may be enough to protect the pinch seam itself, there's nothing preventing the steel plate from pulling up and away from the body like it did for you. you may want to consider adding some steel plate or bar stock to the bottom of that lip, extend it towards the frame and bolting it into the base of your tub. this should help them to act like support straps and keep the rocker guards from pulling away from the body again.

Another alternative is the Hanson sliders. They are being redesigned to attach like the PJ sliders, but have a different look.

so you know, they are the factory skid plate bolts and they are simply reused. one on each side is added toward the back but that's about it. i've run both the shrockworks and lod sliders and haven't had any problems with the bolts being where they are.

sure, it would be nice to have but certainly not necessary. again, i have run both setups and have not had any problems with them the way they are. have my bolts gotten chewed up a bit, sure - but really, it's no big deal.
