Snorkle question
Nice! Is that the trail/road behind the Jeep? Looks pretty hairy. Would love to see you share other action pictures on the expedition modded Jeeps thread ... https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-s...see-em-181613/
. Luckily didn't have to cross the river on the way back out. Will put some pics up on the expedition thread
Cheers. Yeah we had to cross the river, half the trucks got stuck, we pulled some of the smaller trucks through to stop them getting washed away. What the pic doesn't show is how fast the water was moving. Really was 50/50 and in hindsight probably above the trip grading

Installed my gen2 yesterday with bushwacker flat fenders. Ive heard of fitment issues but i had no such issues. Maybe the gen2 is different? Anyways everything snapped together very well and the quality is top notch. Really like the larger intake design of the new kit.
I would imagine sealing the ECM would be a good idea. Not sure if it is feasible, or how exactly to go about it, though. Maybe someone can chime in who has done it.
Im not someone who will be crossing creeks and small rivers. Its for quick dips or possible ingestion. Supercharger likes a decent amount of air and wont hesitate to suck up water. Not screwing up 6k+ worth of motor/SC.
I was told that if doing river crossings need to seal up the engine is this true.... If so what could they be referring to as I want to have fun but seems some possible hidden items needed... I understand the breathers and snorkel.... Please advise thanks n advance...
Apart from the snorkel really only need to extend the diff breathers ( or change your diff oil often). Some people extend the transmission breather but as it is half way up the firewall I have not and not had any water issues yet.
If driving a manual select the correct gear before entering the water as you do not want to change gears mid way as this can see water get between the clutch plates at which point you won't be going anywhere. Other basic thing is pre attach recovery ropes if you think you may need them. The JK door seals are pretty good but will start to leak after 30 seconds or so.
Some people used to think that you had to disconnect your radiator fan but I don't believe this is the case. Maybe with the old metal fans that used to pull themselves forward and chew out the radiator but not with the JKs plastic unit.
Everything else under the bonnet including the electronics are pretty well sealed.

I was looking at the AEV hoods with the cut out near the OEM air box and was wondering if that is covered by a piece of plastic or is it mesh? Reason for asking is I'm wondering if I could possibly cut a similar hole in my hood and make that a low-profile intake. Not necessarily a snorkel but just give the engine more air, and maybe cleaner air than what it would be pulling in from its current location. I heard that a lot of dust accumulates in the engine bay and maybe by having a vent to the outside of the hood, it would have cleaner air? I'm more interested in keeping dust out as I try to stay away from deep water.

The high mount of the snorkel raises the intake above much of the dust. In South Africa while on a hunt, I noticed every truck had a snorkel. Our professional hunter said it wasn't for water, but for the dusty environment.
