The air filter is absolutely what keeps dust out of the engine. However, by pulling air higher up, it may be possible to draw in cleaner (but not clean) air to begin with. And if an air-particle separator is used, the air filter will last longer. You don't just see this on expedition vehicles and hunting safari trucks in Africa--it's quite common on heavy construction equipment all over the world as well.

Right on. Cleaner air will be the primary purpose for mine. However, it will be nice to have increased fording capability, should deep water be unavoidable.

Ya like mid last year... Colorado got hammered with weeks of rain. For $300 it's an excellent one time fee to protect the jeep thru disaster situations
