Default Not working

I just got a SC flashpaq. I downloaded the updates, eventually multiple times. Anyway when I try to use the tune feature it say "General error" after I do the initial on/off sequences. When I do Vehicle Info it says "Upload failed vehicle ID: unused". I sent an email to costomer support. I'll try to call them tommorrow. The only thing it will do is read the VIN number.

Yeah, I was cutting some fire wood friday and had the check light come on. Just what you said. I'll put it back to stock I don't see any real problems with the stock settings, I was just playing with my new toy.

Thanks Jpop and Scott.

Higher octane will not increase MPG.

Higher octane will not increase performance.

The octane rating relates to how much energy it takes to ignite the gas, but NOT directly to how much energy the gas puts out.

The compression ratio of the engine will determine the octane requires.

Stock 3.8L engines run on 87 octane. Paying for premium is a waste and any improvements will only be in your head.

There are many websites out there addressing this issue so do your homework.

Default 6 speeds

I am finding a small issue with my 6 speed....VERY Sensitive Throttle at low speeds....almost neck thrashing. When in slow traffic, school/playground zones or wheeling...I find in 1 to 3rd gear at speeds below 30MPH (50Km/hr)...the throttle is VERY Sensitive and gets pretty jerky. Anyone else with a manual have this issue???

Dude.....get in line with the rest of us. Mine got so bad during this last snowstorm that it was almost undriveable. I dealt with it up until then, but it was impossible to drive in deep snow while going slow. I had 2 choices........stall it out or break the tires loose....no in between. I flashed it back to stock and threw it on top of the tool box. Superchips knows about it, but they don't seem real interested in talking about it beyond "We are aware of the situation and are looking into it". There are a bunch of us over on the superchips forum bitching about it. You are not alone

This isnt entirely true. The compression ratio doesnt have squat to do with what octane is needed in this instance. The air/fuel ratio determines what octane is needed. The value of adding higher octane gas *with a programmer* is that it allows the computer to run a leaner a/f mixture without pinging or knocking. It essentially allows the "most energy" to be squeezed out of the gas you are using.

I went from 14.7mpg on stock 87 octane tune to 16.57mpg on the superchips 93 octane tune. Its not because of the 93 octane itself, as you mentioned, but it allows the engine to burn the gas hotter (more air) and get more power out of it without knocking.

Default Superchips LACK of Customer Service

The programer worked the first time. When I tried to update it it locked up saying Bootloader error. Cust Service response was my computer was at fault, my internet connection was bad, anything I have is wrong. After four different computers and three internet connections they finally might have a problem and it is on it's way to them.

Not to try and defend them, but I'm willing to bet for every "legit" complaint they get like yours, there are probably several that are genuinely "user error".

Have mine set for 93 Oct and above and use 95 Oct fuel... The throtle is more responsive and the jeep has noticably more power; especially when taking of at the lights. It just pushes my 33's alot better than before.

Fuel economy has improved (for my style of driving) approx 15%.

Off road; I use the crawl mode and the truck performs beautifully, much softer skinny pedal and is harder to stall.

No coplaints here, just love it

As someone else mentioned, this is way off base and doesn't tell the whole story.

Higher Octane can increase performance if timing enables a longer power stroke.

No argument that octane rating makes no difference in how much energy the fuel contains.

Varied timing will also play a role in octane requirements. More advance requires more octane to inhibit pre-ignition.

I can see that I run more advance when tuned to higher octanes with the Flashpaq and assuredly with a lower octane and those settings it would have pre-ignition and pinging.

You too should do your homework.
