Default Octane???

A newbie, please be gentle with me. In looking at performance chips and the various settings for 87, 91, 93 octane fuels does it take into consideration the decreased requirement for higher octane with high altitudes, i.e, above 6-7000 ft. msl. Here in Colorado, you can not get 93 octane easily. Being in the oil business most of my life, it is common knowledge that you decrease the need for high octane with the decrease in available O2. Thus only 85, 87, 91 is offered in high altitude markets.

Okay, so I loaded the 87 tune tonight. I love it! Yes, I've got some pinging, but I've only put about 16 miles on it. I flogged it pretty good for the first 10 miles or so...taking off with a heavy foot, making it downshift around 35-40 and letting it wind out pretty good. I can tell some of the pinging has already started to go away so well will see what happens over time. I can also tell the trans has a much firmer shift under heavy acceleration. Throttle response off the line is 100% better. All in all, I'm a happy camper right now.

I'm running 35" KM2's that measure just a hair under 34" using a level across the tread and measuring to the floor and I set the tire size to 33.75". I checked the speedo with a gps and it appears to be spot on.

I'm going to play with the other functions as time allows.

Default 2 Days Later

Superchips Update W/ 87 Octane, 2 Day's of Owning it, Less than 50 Miles.

NOTE: Overdrive on is when you put your key in the ignition and you just drive.

NOTE: Overdrive off, is when you put your key in the ignition and you manually press a button that is below the air-conditioner controls which toggles "O/D Off"

Not even to 50 Miles on my SuperChips yet.

Before my superchips with the overdrive off (Auto)

I would be on the freeway, speedometer telling me 70 MPH but GPS telling me 82 MPH , and I would be at 2800 - 3,000 RPMS (OVERDRIVE OFF).

With the Overdrive left ON, I would be at 2,000 - 2,200 RPMS @ 70 MPH but GPS telling me i'm going 82 MPH.

UPDATE WITH SUPERCHIPS:

OVERDRIVE OFF W/ SUPERCHIPS

I corrected my speedometer, so I am now going a real 70 MPH per the GPS and the dash, with the overdrive OFF, I am at 2400-2600 RPMS almost perfect.

Overdrive on w/ Superchips

Going 70 MPH with the Overdrive ON and superchips, my RPMS are at 1400-1600 but it holds small inclines a little better, meaning it has a little acceleration before shifting in gears.

To soon to tell any real comparisons. of course the girlfriend say's "OMG, IT'S A HUGE DIFFERENCE"

will report back.

When the girlfriend or wife notices a difference, I think you are on to something.

I just bought one a couple days ago and didn't see it available for download either. I haven't had a chance to play with the Flashpaq other than loading the 87 tune and setting the tire diameter. If you find anything out, post up.

The tuner must be vin locked to your vehicle in order to see the Trans tuning feature and TPMS offroad.

Advanced trans tuning is located under vehicle one in the drop down menu at the top of the Internet Update page.

PM me if you need assistance.

I'm about halfway through this thread but I used to tune LS1's and LS2's. The best way I've found for accurately measuring tire diameter for tuning is to measure from the ground to the center of the hub and multiply by 2. This shows the computer the diameter it'll see as the weight of the vehicle is compressing the bottom of the tire.

I'm sure it's pretty close the other way though.
