Superchips Flashpaq for JK, Initial Impressions
So what is the pinging coming from that people are reporting? Also, can someone explain why the TPMS would be an issue? If the sensor measures pressure and not volume what difference would it make what size the tire is?
I'm not sure about the pinging< I did not have this problem, but as for the tires, you can switch over your TPMS when you get bigger tires, but most just scrap the sensors and use the tuner to disable so your dash light and chime do not come on.
I think my pinging came from the engine itself. Its on the superchips forum on their website...people explain it there. Mine hardly ever pings anymore..I think its just the computer trying to learn the new engine tune, working out the small issues it has within itself. So mine runs perfect now...without pinging. I dont see it being a big deal.
OK, I understand that when you first install a "tune" that the ECM will take some time to re-learn and I may have some "pinging" for a while. My question is can I run on a lower Octane (less expensive) than what is recommended and wait for the ECM to learn/adjust the pinging out? OR will this cause DAMAGE?
We thoroughly test our products before releasing them to the public and we make sure that we provide the best possible performance to our customers without sacrificing drivability or a reduction in engine life.
All of our tunes are compatibility tested with all types of gasoline octanes. Due to the increase in several factors within the vehicles PCM including timing it was determined that no less than 91 octane was required in out Tow and Performance tunes to defeat any spark knock that might occur. If spark knock is present the PCM will receive data from the knock sensors and will remove all performance gains made by the tuning in efforts to remove that issue basically defeating the purpose for adding the tuning in the first place.
On the brighter side, we have received user feedback from the field that says that with the higher tuning levels you may actually see increased fuel mileage improvements. Those increases may reduce the additional cost differences between the grades. Of course the savings will all depend on how you drive the vehicle.
Lead foot = empty wallet.
