Default 87 octain tune

I just got my Superchips tuner yesterday and tried a few tunes. The Jeep seems more responsive. The altitude is around 4500 here and I tried the tunes in rapid succesion so that conditions didn't change. There is a steep hill on the interstate nearby where my Jeep shifts out of overdrive part way up the hill. The 87 tune made a real difference on that downshift. I had about a half tank of 85 octain in the tank so I filled it the rest of the way with 91 octain and tried the 91 tune. It didn't seem to make much difference from the 87 tune and I tried it several times to varify after I filled the tank. I'm going to leave it on the 91 tune until I have to fill the tank again. With a tank of 91 I will give the 93 octain a try as well as the 87 and 91 again. At this altitude we have 85/regular, 88/plus and 91/premium. I never noticed any pinging with the tunes I tried.

Has anyone else had similar results? I've not had the tuner long enough to get any ideas about mileage figures. What mileage have others been getting with the various tunes? Based on my initial testing I'm likely to just run the 87 tune with regular gas unless the 91 tune gives better mileage (I've seen some posts suggesting that is the case.) The seat of the pants performance seems the same so far. Has anyone recorded the 0-60 mph figures with the various tunes to compare them?

I'm impressed with the tuner (seat of the pants), but would like whatever data that is available to support my impression.

Question...

I bought a flashpaq from a forum member and for a lot of the reasons already stated here I love it. Initially it was pinging/knocking pretty bad under load through the first two gears (auto). I had read through pretty much this whole thread and took jpop's suggestion to take it out for some high rpm on ramp type blasts. It worked like a charm and the pinging was gone on the same day.

Now here's the question...I need gas today. I want to try the 91 tune but am wondering if I don't like it (or am too cheap to continue using premium fuel) and go back to 87 will the computer have to relearn the tune again and force me to blast the engine again to rid the pinging? Also, should I just wait and keep using 87 since I've only run 1/2 a tank so far on it (first tune was just on Monday)

Thanks guys

Oh, also want to give praise to super chips for helping me out. When I got the tuner on Monday it said it was still vin locked to the sellers jeep stating the tpms wasn't set back. I called super chips and they said it'd be $100 but after explaining the situation they unlocked the programmer no charge! Great customer service...

Default Dead pedal

I have been running Superchips FP on both the 87 and 91 tune for several months now on my 10 JKU. It has definitely helped me run stronger since I regeared to 5.13 with an automatic especially pulling 37's and heavy front bumper/winch and rear bumper with tire carrier. I can tell you that it will not solve the problem of the engine having no power to begin with, but it does help especially in the low end. It also is nice to change the gear and tire settings and my speedo is dead on to GPS now. Gas mileage has improved to mid 13's in everyday driving from the low teens I was getting before. One major issue I have had is that there is a horrible dead pedal/throttle lag between 2-3000 RPM in 3rd and 4th gears. I know this is a Jeep issue as it also did this prior to my purchase of the FP. I have tried to feather the gas pedal, but I always have to push the pedal harder to get any response at all and it always jumps from 4th gear to 3rd as the delay pretty much slows the vehicle down if I am not hard on the pedal in that range. I have contacted Superchips, but they do not have a fix/update for this on the automatic as it is an ETC issue from what I understand. They do offer a throttle sensitivity setting for manuals. They told me to uninstall and reinstall tune, but it does not help. I have done alot of research on this, and it looks like the next purchase will be the Sprintbooster which used together with Flashpaq has great results eliminating throttle lag and hopefully the dreaded dead pedal syndrome. I just do not want to spend $300 on top of the SC FP to fix this, but it looks like that is my last option Anyone else have this same issue? Does Sprintbooster help with the dead pedal? Anyone had success with changing transmission shift schedule?

Hey guys just wanted to share a good deal on the Superchips Flashpaq I found. Go to Autozone.com and search for Flashpaq and your vehicle year. Add it to your cart, select home shipping and go through the checkout process. When order review comes up type in "azmail0927" into the coupon box and hit apply. This will take your total price from $339 to $288 with free shipping. They also have a promotion that you receive a $15 gift card for every $100 spent. In this case $30. I have not placed my order yet to verify everything but hope to today.

Update: it does work and just adds tax in the checkout, but is still cheaper than anything I have found so far.

I'm running the 93 tune... is that just over kill or should 87 be fine.. and I have 4", 35's, and 5.13 gears... how should the auto shift points be?

Yes it will have to undergo a relearn.

Newly acquired superchips owner and I must say u feel the difference with the 93 tune. Nothing overly dramatic since I have a 6 speed but you feel her pull harder throughout the rpm band.

And for those with spark knock issues DO NOT USE IRIDIUM PLUGS. I put in a new set of ngk iridiums and was getting heavy ping with every tune. The plugs run wayyyy to hot and the ping gets worse as the motor heats up.

Put in oem champion platinum today and she's running like butter.

Recently purchased and installed the 93 tune. Even with the 6 speed u can feel the increase in tq especially in the lower gears.

Also if your running iridium plugs ditch them for the oem platinum. I was pinging with every tune on two day old ngk iridium plugs. Even before superchips I was having pinging issues and know for a fact now it as due to the plugs since I was running them before and put in new ones right before superchips.
