I'm not from Australia although we are working on putting together a 3 week vacation there in a year and a half. Probably a little long to wait for me to bring my Flashpaq.

As for the higher octane fuel, that is what I'd most like to run but have been satisfied with the lower octane settings. With higher octane fuel you get more up against the physical constraints of the engine when the programmer pushes the advance and lower octane settings are trying to figure out how much advance they can get away with before detonation.

I always get better mileage with the higher octane settings although the price/benefit doesn't pay for itself in terms of efficiency. In round numbers the extra $3 gets me 10 extra miles per tankful. Certainly not a big cost, but if I have a lot of stuff on the calendar and places to roll in a month, I generally opt for the savings of running regular.

The tow setting thus far has been my favorite for just running around town. I'm sure someone will want to poke a stick in my ribs about inadvertently running it short on the octane side. Yes, reading is fundamental. It's designed to run on 91 or better octane fuel. Keep in mind that the way fuel octane ratings in the states are measured differently than elsewhere in the world (R+M/2 in the US and RON elsewhere). In round numbers your fuel in Australia will need to be about 5 points higher in Octane rating if they don't have an export version of the Flashpaq that takes into account the difference in octane ratings.

So best of luck on the new jeeps, and at some point I'll need to hit you up for some information about exploring the southern coast of Oz. I have definite plans to make it over to Perth on wheels and see some things that the typical US vacationer doesn't get a chance to see.

I'm trying the tow tune for the first time this tank. I just filled it up with premium and I'm about to take it on a short road trip.

I've been a member of the site for a little while now, never really made any posts it's been mostly just to soak in the knowledge of everyone.

Being a farm boy from Idaho Falls and living in Utah for 20+ years, I've always driven a truck or some sort of 4x4 vehicle. I never really got into the 'offroading' in a vehicle, mostly 4 wheelers, until I bought my JK in '07. Man let me just say...I LOVE IT!!

When I bought my Jeep it already had a 2" Teraflex lift with some 35" Kuhmo's. I've been saving up to drop a 4" lift with a high steering kit, sporting some new 'Toyo Open Country.' And like everyone, the JK just lacks the giddy-up.

Seriously guys, thanks a ton for the post and comments! I'm totally placing my order next week on 'NorthRidge's' site for mine!!

Just ordered mine from Northridge. Thanks to everyone for all your feedback. I was originally interested in the Hypertech however after a little research, and readng all 48 pages of comments, SC is the clear choice.

That's great! I'm sure you'll enjoy it and I can definitely appreciate the comments about falling in love with the Jeep. Never thought I would get the bug so bad and had primarily bought it for all weather transportation.

That's the same choice I made while having them both for a brief moment and the Hypertech for over a year. I don't need to look over my shoulder about that decision, but in fairness Hypertech said they wouldn't work with my exhaust upgrades.

Recently I had tried to offer some assistance to a Max Energy user in another thread and the posts eroded into some chest thumping. I certainly wasn't about to rain on anyone's parade, but I did want to see what features they thought were better. I pretty much got a couple of non-answers and then the accusation of riding the coattails of brand loyalty in a blind loyalty to political party context.

While nothing could be further from the truth, I wish someone who has put both through their paces could give a fair evaluation of both products. While I know where I stood at the end of my tests, it was based on my vehicle and Hypertech already had told me that my headers put it outside the framework of their products bounds.

Default comparing the two

Alright I am your guy:

I had used the hypertec for 15 mo. then it got stolen i know don't ask.

Well I do not regret buying the hypertec as initially it did save me from 1.5 to 2 mpg and paid for itself for sure; see my other hypertech comments. I would have had no prob recommending it until last week. Let me clear up in case you do not read below. I am running straight exhaust magnaflow, air raid cai, TB spacer, 34" tires with a 3" coil and 1" body.

Hypertech: minimal seat of the pants feel, if you are easy on the pedal and concentrate you will pick up gains in mpg for sure. When I bought mine 379.00. I tried all settings and was not impressed at all with the 91 or higher octane as I was not able to feel difference between that and lower octane. My wife and anyone else could not even tell the difference between stock either. Let me be clear I could feel the difference but just barely.

Features of coarse correcting tire size is awsome, I had no need for gear changes or fan speed as I have not changed my thermostat. So I used it soley for performance, mpg, and trie sizing. It has no ability to log time trials, so no way to compare there.

Programming was tempormental, and LOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGG, 15 - 20 min or longer if you needed to fine tune tire size. UGGG

Before this month I would say I would have recommended it over say the procal or other stripped down versions. After it was stolen and I did not have it installed for a week I realized my mph was about the same lower by about .5mpg and I did not miss it. I asked myself if I could justify another 400.00. Answer no way. I decided to give the flashpaq a try as david at NORTHRIDGE4x4 has a great deal on these and can fast ship them (mine arrived in 3 days).

Superchips Flashpaq: Updating on the internet the first time is a bit confusing and a very long process. I think it took about 25 min. When I installed the tuning that took about 7 min max and I was burning up the road. What a difference absolutely noticable with out one doubt. The flashpaq absolutely saticfied me with the increase in performance. If it stopped there I would be happy.

I have not got a chance to run 91 and the 91 setting that will be next week.

I have played around with the active features you can use while your driving. Ok now they have really got me there is probably 20 inputs you can monitor that I found from temps to load to air fuel etc. and probably 20 features I have not used yet. I also love the time trials you can do by distance or speed. It is very easy to use and helps to break the enigma of our wonderful fly by wire jeeps that are all computer all the time.

I will try to log some times, but it is not that easy as you really need a dead stop followed by an open straight run. I will try to hit a freeway on ramp, but the dead stop thing could cause an accident.

My wife's response when she first road in it after the install was, "Holy %^& what the hell did you do to it?"

feel free to ask questions, but I am a new user so bare with me.

Just got mine from Northridge today and did the update procedure (about 25 min) I just used it to reset my speedo for now, my Jeep only has 350 miles on it and I wanted to wait till about 1000 or so to put the tune in. I was looking in the menu and noticed that I don't have the TPMS yet, does anyone know when they will be releasing that update.

I did the same thing and got it yesterday too.

I have a 2009 Rubi 2 door, manual trans with about 2400 miles on it.

Here's a quick review:

The whole registration process with Superchips is rediculous. I registered on their web site, then had to register again through the update software, using a more complex password, then to use their forums had to register again! Each step requires an authentication through e-mail and the 1 for the forum never showed up. Very frustrating.

The update of the Flashpaq takes quite a while. Mine was about 30 minutes. It doesn't give much feedback about what's happening. It would be real nice to know what features are being added. I found nowhere on their web site that gives any feature history at all.

I installed the tow tune (Thanks jpop!) and drove around a bit last night. I have 3/4 tank of 87 octane gas. There was a noticeable difference. This morning I did my regular commute and there is a real difference. I think throttle response is the major improvement, but there sems to be a big driveability improvement too. I was 1 gear higher than before for a lot of the slower part of the commute.

Disappointments - The registration and update procedure just sucks. The superchips website clearly says that it provides TPMS adjustment capability and control of lockers in 4Hi. No TPMS and apparently the locker control is only through the Flashpaq, which they reccomend not leaving in the vehicle, so it's pretty useless. I knew about all but the registration thanks to this forum, but how do they get away with advertising features that aren't there?

Bottom line - It seems worth it. Hopefully they will add the missing features soon.

Don't look too hard as it's not there yet. As I understand things it's totally done just getting the powers that be to go along with the terms of use for this feature.
