I know this is an old thread but where did u get the shovel holder on front of hood?

 

"Where" I got it won't help you: Supplee 4X4 here in Oklahoma City. Bob Supplee retired a couple months ago and closed up the shop. However, what it is will help: It's the ToughStuff Hi-Lift jack mount. It also comes with the hardware necessary to use it for an axe and shovel, which is what I did once I was able to move the Hi-Lift to the rear bumper. Some folks have made their own similar racks--which can be quite a bit cheaper. But, the ToughStuff is very well made--no cheaping out on parts. I paid $115, but Bob gave me a pretty good deal.

Do you have any issues with the windshield washer fluid hitting the shovel and missing the glass?

Since some of you really went deep out of the roads, what maps did you use? Paper, computer or both?

I've been trying to get a topo map software that works with the GPS embedded in my laptop. The ones I found so far that work like this are for city streets, no topo. Or, the topo ones require to download the maps to a portable GPS.

Any recommendations?

 

No. There is a notch in the crossbar to prevent that. ToughStuff also provides a couple stainless washers to shim the crossbar in case it happens, but I didn't need to use. They said in the directions that they never saw a case where they needed to be used (this is when the rack was new), but they provide the washers "just in case". That's a good question, though, because I've read of other, similar racks that don't have that notch and do interrupt the spray.
