For those who have been following my WABDR videos, part 4 includes several minutes of driving through The Jungle as we headed to our campsite near Lake Chelan. Some of you may have cobbled that bit of info together with news reports about the Chelan Fire Complex. Well, here are two maps, one of the fire complex as of August 28th, the other of our route through on July 9th. I'm guessing that The Jungle will be little more than a name going forward ...

So, I've got to fit it between all of that, and that does not include the photography work I for the local Boy Scout program. I do keep busy for a retiree!

We're headed back to Moab on Saturday. Running the White Rim Road and Top of the World for sure on this trip. May try to squeak in Elephant Hill too. Depends on how the time goes and what I break this time. Last year's broken brake line stole a whole day from us.

You know about new rules for day permits, right? Some rules changed a few months ago; others are changing Sept 1st ...

White Rim Road - Canyonlands National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

4WD Roads in the Needles - Canyonlands National Park (U.S. National Park Service)
Mark,

Sure do! Had a nice chat with a ranger at the park, campsite is reserved, route permits in hand for White Rim. The ranger I talked to say's that they are basing the daily permit levels on EJS numbers so getting a permit should never be a problem. Appreciate you having my back! You're the best!

One thing we discussed was the proposal for making Fins and Things a directional route. This issue is caused by the huge increase in OHV's on the trails. These guys are running fast, cutting new trails, and creating "head-on" issues at danger points on obstacles. They're trying to create a workable solution so that everyone can play but if things change, blame the OHV crowd.

I would actually be okay with making Fins and Things one way. Heck, if folks want it a different direction, maybe alternate it each day--use barricades to let folks know. I've run it four or five times and it is a hoot.
