Thanks for the responses, sorry for the drop-off on my part - I had to work a bit.

I don't know the exact weight of my boat, motor, trailer, and gear, but I can assume, by looking at the weights of current equivalents, that I'm at about 1400 + 400 + 600 + 400, or right in the middle of "2500-3500 lbs". I didn't include the weight in the original post, as it's a guess, and I thought "18' Skeeter" might offer someone the ability to say "hey, I have a 19' Blazer and my SC install absolutely (transformed my experience|made no difference)".

I didn't indicate that my Rubicon was a 4WD because I thought they all were. My bad if this isn't the case. Mine is.

Searching towing related posts at jeepforum seems to indicate that no one does much towing of anything with a JK and O/D on.

I hoped to avoid the "your JK isn't a tow vehicle" comments by indicating the same in my original post. Rather, I hoped to elicit post SC towing experiences.

Finally, to comment on the other towing experiences, I can offer some relevant information I left out of my original post. Towing at ~60 is very different from towing at ~70. At slower speeds, there was no hunting, even with O/D on. At 70, there was no way to leave O/D on.

On my 220 mile trip, the first 30 miles or so, there is more traffic, so even though the speed limit is 70, I make no attempt to do 70. It makes no sense to tow fast, especially in heavier traffic. There's no need to ask for trouble with more acceleration, braking, or lane changing with 24 feet of trailer behind you. Once the road opened up and I kicked the cruise up to a GPS indicated 70 (as mentioned, not trying to set a land speed record, just to not be a roadblock) and the hunting began.

Other than the hunting, the JK, with my boat, is a nice stable platform. While there wasn't a strong crosswind, tractor trailers didn't upset anything. Braking was nice and predictable. The ride was better than my prior tow vehicle, largely due to the Jeep's real rear suspension. My previous tow vehicle was an 05 Pathfinder (270hp/291tq) which admittedly had a lot more giddy-up. So, yeah, I could set the cruise on 75 with it and climb grades with no downshift. I could pass on two lanes as well. I knew I was giving up this "hot rod" performance (in exchange for what the Jeep offers in other areas) but didn't realize the magnitude of the difference. Still, the Pathfinder's cut down SUV suspension (low floor and fold flat 3rd row = minimal travel) doesn't compare to the Jeep's long travel setup. No more bone jarring bottoming, towing or not.

I don't know that I would pursue a high dollar re-gear for towing performance. It'd take a lot of fuel savings to pay for that, and I only do the long high speed tow a few times a year, but thanks for the information.

That said, a Flashpaq will help although it won't be an end all solution.

I tend to depress the clutch any time my intent is to slow down. So I don't experience the same kind of engine braking that you do.

It's very possible that SC allows a very low manifold pressure and nearly almost closes the throttle blade. That leaves better pressure in the air intake tube and promotes some efficiency although at the same time it may take away some vehicle smoothness.

I tried paying attention to this after your post. I do notice that the response is faster, but it wasn't enough to catch my attention when I first installed the programmer. I'm still running the tow tune today.

Nope, Just leave myself lots of space between me and the vehicle in front of me and look for brake lights 5 cars ahead. In other words, he who hits their brakes first loses. That's also probably part of the reason I'm still pulling over 20 mpgs rolling on 35s. Clutch depressed and I'm rolling at 800 rpms, as opposed to over 2k.

Unhappy Superchip will not load data!

I just got my Superchip Flashpaq from Northridge 4WD, (very quick service, thanks much) went to the Superchip website to Update the programmer and proceeded to go through all the steps. After close to an hour of updating, downloading files, etc, I get the following message:
"The calibration for your vehicle is not currently supported. Information about your vehicle has been sent to our engineers for analysis and you will be notified via e-mail when a calibration is available for your vehicle.- You may unplug your Programmer."

A flyer that came with the tuner says that if you get this message you have a 'unique engine and/or transmission file we have not reviewed to date"
Ah, I don't think thats the problem. I mean, really, my jeep is a stock 2 door, 2008 JK with the 6 speed. How common is that? As common as dirt.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I guess we will see what they have to say next week, (they are closed on the weekends) but it would have been really nice to try the thing out this weekend!

Sorry to hear that... I hope you are able to get it up an running soon. You may want to re-try the update just in case it works the second time around. Then you wouldn't have to wait until Monday.

When you updated your Flashpaq... what was the firmware version that it updated to?

There's a lot more that goes into calibrations than just a transmission type and body style. There are various PCM updates, component differences and lastly what the feature set of your vehicle is.

When you call in Monday, make sure you get a ticket number. If you don't have a ticket number, it's believed your case is closed with the end of your conversation. When you do have a ticket number and find resolution make sure to close your case so no one continues to work on it.

I really don't know what the load is there but I would think that you would certainly be able to have a fix by the end of the week. At the initial introduction perhaps as many as 1 in 3 were getting database calibration errors. It's certainly a ton less and the vast majority of new users are plugging it in and it works. Unfortunately, it's just getting a little skin in the game so the next guy doesn't need to.

Does anyone know if Superchips is still working on an update to allow lockers in 4HI without having the Flashpaq plugged in? OR is what we got it?
