The Sahara you've built up is already better than a lot of the Jeeps the rest of us are driving. Why do you feel you have to have a Rubicon? It kinda sounds like you want one because you don't want your little brother having something better than you. If you're paying for it yourself then do what you want. If your parents are paying for it then the decision is not really up to you.

Honestly If I were in your situation I would try to save as much money as possible so that I could move into my own place with my new wife. To me that would take priority over having the baddest Jeep on the block.

Your brother will get a lot of tail with that thing. It will make his last couple of years in HS pretty fun.
Well said

I wanted the dana 44 bad because I had an 83cj that I had bent the axles on 3times That elec sway bar doesnt give you as much flex as disconnecting. The lockers are good but guys have wheeled plenty with their x's and sahara's without lockers.

I say keep the sahara and if you really want new wheels/lift to replace the new wheels and lift you already have then you can sell your existing wheels to help pay for that. Is your brother REALLY going to be 100% happy with the sahara?

Good luck!

Dont get me wrong i am excited about being able to have a hard top and auto transmission, But the lockers are the MAIN reason i want a ruby. I want the discos/ lockers and the stickers to of course, but the main reasons in want it is because im planning on leaving it stock for a bit and it will be exactly what i want. As of now even though i have a lift and winch and all i really just dont feel like my jeep would be a nice as a stock ruby
.
As for my brother, i think i may have just said it wrong earlier when i was talking about how i got him wanting a jeep... it was like this...

He originally wanted a new GTO...(yuck) and my mom loves my jeep and told me that i should try and talk him into a jeep because she would feel more comfy with him driving that over a gto. So i did and got him excited thinking about all we could do if we both had new jks. He wouldnt be getting a rubicon, my mom will only buy one for me since i will be moving out in 2 months or so and taking over the payment. So since he was going to just be getting an X model and maybe a small lift with wheels... my jeep would be worth far more than any jeep he is going to be getting. Thats why when i said to him i would give it to him since i dont want the soft top or the stick wich he does... he is extremely happy to take my jeep. I didnt like somehow persuade him into getting it. I mean yes it does benefit me end, but my jeep is practically brand new, and hes more than happy to get that over a new X model.

About the lockers though.. i have been watching as many videos on youtube that have like some rubys and some saharas just to see the difference in ease of use when rock climbing since that is what i want to build my new jeep for in the end... and it just seems like yes both cars get through the obstacles in the end... But the saharas are just kinda more reckless and flooring the gas more just to kinda jump the rocks almost where the rubys because of the lockers are able to maintain control and "crawl" which is what i really want, and since i wanna drive it stock a while i think the ruby would be perfect since its FULLY capable and still pretty economical as far as gas is concerned while stock. my sahara get 12.5 MPG right now...(well according to my readout, its probably off a bit.) And i am not crazy about the gas thing... i realise it comes with a jeep and im fine with it... im just saying out of the two cars a ruby would be much better for my few travels that are going to be coming up shortly....

The new question i guess since i have decided on the ruby i think, is what to do about the year? since 2007,8,9 are basically the same thing except a few new mods on the 09's do you think it would be smartest to find a new 07 from somewhere or a slightly used one? or find a new 08? or order a new 09? Last time i was impatient and just wanted a jeep... This time i want to make sure i take my time and get what i want so i dont ever wanna get something else.

I'm not going to bash you for a silver spoon. Others have taken care of voicing any misgivings i have about that, and truth be told, damn man, wish I had one myself.

As for the Jeep, it is hard for me to say without bias, as i am looking at the outside chance of trading off my Sahara for a Rubi. I might end up with new used, an '09 (in my dreams) or nothing. Will more likely just continue to build what i have.

If i had acces to abundant funds, i would just go equip and order an '09 2dr. Rubi with all the features i do and dont want and start from scratch. Well, my bumper, lights and a few other miscellaneous things would get transferred.

Good luck either way, just post up some pics please if ya do. It'd be cool to see your old and new parked side by side.

I paid out of my pocket $300 for my first Car, 72 Mecury Montego. Gas was about $.50 a gallon and I did all my own work on it.
I drove it until I had $3000 for a down payment on a "used" 76 Plymouth Trail Duster (wish I still had it). Gas was about $1.00 a gallon and I still did all my own work.

I understand that you take care of your Jeep, but you need to take care of your financial situation yourself. At 15-16 years old one should not depend on money from parents. I lied to get my first job washing dishes I was 14 and said I was 16 (the guy talked to my parents before hiring me). Minimum wage was $1.35 an hour.

My daughter is 17 and works, my son is 14 and wants to work but laws are a little different now. I'm working on a bus boy job for him ;-)

Who do you think you are? Maybe you didn't have parents who were able to buy everything you wanted, I know I didn't. As sorry as I feel for myself, life isn't fair. Get over it.

I am very angry with this statement. You are saying those who don't have wealthy parents are started off some way other than right!? I don't know how this can be more backwards. People who are not given everything...myself included take what their learned from their parents and build successful meaningful lives every day. I was not handed everything I needed...I WORKED for it. I don't know how many different stories I've heard about wealthy kids taking advantage of what they are given...and why their parents keep giving is beyond me. -I'm not saying this is your case but a worse case scenario...don't ever assume that because someone is wealthy, that they started out that way or that they where necessarily raised "correctly".

To the original question: Your Jeep looks bad @$$ the way it is, unless there are issues with its ability and what your doing with it I see no need to change. Then again I have a "lowly" X model that I am making payments and am more than impressed with when off road even in its stock form.

I didn't read all of the comments--though I read most--but I've decided the best way for me to answer this question is to pose it for myself (because your personal situation isn't really that relevant): If I could afford it, would I trade in my modded 07X for a new Rubi? Darn, that's a tough one. I really am fond of what I've done with my X. And, while I enjoy working on it, I sure don't want to repeat the wait for Shrockworks hardware, find the time to do the installs, etc. And, I also don't want to take a chance on getting new problems that may be unacceptable. But, lockers? Yeah, that would be nice. But I wheel a little, and I'm not certain that you do (which means the lockers wouldn't be a real benefit to you). And, I can always add lockers to my X. Electro disco's? I have manuals and they are fine and give me something to do while the Stants remove air from the tires. New lifetime warrant? I'm undoubtedly in the minority, but I can't wait for my warranty to end and to get Chrysler out of my hair. I'll probably rue saying that someday, but for now that's how I feel. I generally keep vehicles for 10 or more years, and I think I'd keep the X for now. I just wouldn't want to be seen running around in a plain old Rubi until I could get it looking as nice as my X.

A personal aside: When at Monroney feel free to give me a call if you'd like to visit. I'm listed in the phone book; just be sure to spell my last name correctly.
