I pull the tune out before i leave for the dealership. Allows it to reset some of the obd ii readiness codes on the drive so it's not 'so obvious' that someone just cleared the codes on it. Also, i pull the fuse for my locker hack, since that also throws a code (which i clear). That way they cant hit the 'what is this button' and come up with a potential problem for me.

Default First Impression

Just got back from my initial test ride after flashing my Jeep. I have been waiting for nearly a month for my SC to arrive (took over a month for the unit to arrive in the mail to the UK). Initial impression… all smiles. Just did the quick tune option with 91 octane, and can feel the results. Nice response on the gas pedal (gone is the bungee feeling), acceleration is what I expected a new JK to feel like from the get-go, and already seeing a slight rise in the MPG. Will leave it tuned to where I have it now, and see if I would want to change to the tow tune later. Just about all of the posts to this thread have been informative and helpful, prompting me to try the SC Flashpaq. Thanks for sharing, and I’m pleased with the purchase and newly obtained performance boost.

that is useless if you are trying to hide anything. none of your readiness codes will be set, and they can see that very easily. if you are doing it that way, dont bother returning it to stock at all. Takes around 3 full cold/hot cycles to reset them all properly.

I highly doubt that any dealer updates are going to "Brick" the JK - they may (will) change operating parameters, but bricking it - highly unlikely as they're doing the same thing that the tuners are all doing - writing modified data into the memory and I'd hazzard to guess that if there was any data that didn't check out the updates wouldn't install on top of that version of code (I know some manufacturers require specific versions to update 'on top of' to prevent problems with the ECU updates otherwise a full flash has to be done)

If for some odd reason they did happen to 'brick' it it would only be temporary - they have a way to install a full version of code onto the computer to get it back to the base calibration that they need to run the vehicle - it would just take a little more time to get it flashed...

Yep, the dealer should just write over your Flashpaq code. The problem is your flashpaq stock settings will then not match your new stock settings, and it assumes you are trying to program a second vehicle. Of course you can send it back to them (SC). I'm sure they will fix it for a small fee.

Since they lock the programmer with the vehicle VIN I would have to assume it works like other programmers where it would still work on that vehicle - it would interrogate the VIN number of the vehicle and if it matched the version stored in the programmer then it would read the code / version and determine if it had a program to update that particular version of code and if not they'll get the message to contact SC... I don't know about this Superchip programmer in particular but that's how others in the industry do it so I can't see them doing something different...

True, and I actually meant the current setting wouldn't match the new stock settings, since they overwrite your code. I doubt you will be able to use the flashpaq again until SC gets their hands on it. That's the way the Edge in my truck was. I'm not willing to try though, I even return tire pressures back to stock before taking it in.

I've heard several people say the 91 octane tune is worth it for mileage and performance. Has anyone compared both the 87 and octane tune? Is it noticeably better and with the mpg increase, does it offset the higher cost of fuel?
I had the same experience with my Flashpaq. I didn't notice much of a performance improvement power-wise on the 87 octane tune, but I did notice a dramatic improvement in driveability due to the vastly improved transmission shift points - no more refusing to downshift until 95% throttle or refusing to downshift on a hill when the cruise control is engaged and thereby dropping 5-10mph by the time the top of the hill is reached.

Now if only I could give Superchips customer support the same positive review I gave their tuner, but sadly I cannot, and that's all I'm going to say here about that.

Default 3 Tanks Later

I'm on my third tank of 93 Octane with the 93 Octane Tune. For performance it is my favorite but the MPG gains are minimal if any. It holds interstate speeds well and has just all around better response. I've seen only about 1 mpg improvement on average.

I had reported pinging on the 87 tune, which was alleviated by running mid-grade. This was in Dallas. I recently moved to Evergreen, CO so I now live at 7700' of elevation. The 87 tune pings even with premium (91) here. I just bagged it and reverted to stock. Any minimal "improvements" won't be worth it if I grenade an engine.

I'm going to just sell mine I think...
