I always run the designated octane or higher than what the tune calls for. If you run lower than the tune, it starts hitting the knock sensors and backing out the timing anyway.

You should roll with it for a while and see how you feel about the performance. If it's gear hunting or having frequent downshifts you should start investigating what gears make the most sense.

It doesn't shift too much so I think I'll go with the uncorking and flashpaq for starters. Hopefully that will show some mpg gain and then I'll regear when I switch to 35's. Here's the bottom line. I have about $1500 to spend and my main goal is to gain some mpg. I'm really looking for advice on the best way to spend my $$$.

I just installed an 87 tune this morning (still have a full tank of it). I maybe reading it wrong, but do you suggest to run 89 with 87 tune?
Or were just pointing out the importance of not going lower?

Obviously this shop owner has no practical experience with this product. There are some other products out there that don't do much of anything, but certainly not a Flashpaq or Vivid. I'm also surprised that they wouldn't at minimum recommend a Procal as you can do your tire calibration yourself for not a whole lot more than what he stated the dealer would charge. Lastly, the dealer cannot calibrate for tires larger than 32" and gears above 4.10s.

The important thing is not going lower than the Tune. For instance you don't want to run the 91 tune on 87 Octane fuel.

Wasn't 100% sure. Thank you.
What do you think of running 87 tune while using 89 gas?

It certainly wouldn't hurt anything but there wouldn't be much benefit. As infrequently as you'd bump up against the knock sensors using the prescribed octane, you run into them even less with a bump in octane. If you have changed some sort of mechanicals such as a throttle body (not just a spacer) or added headers there could be a benefit as well.

Let me pick your brains just a tad more.
I have K&N drop-in filter and Flowmaster muffler, but this morning just ran 87 tune for stock engine (3.8)
Should I bother with Advanced tune or add-ons that I have aren't significant enough?

Neither of those items will change things dramatically enough to effect the tunes. Headers can as they cause better cylinder evacuation and a throttle body will let more air in at lower throttle position percentages without having the tables changed to accommodate the larger bore.
