Superchips Flashpaq for JK, Initial Impressions
This is a bad idea unless you have actually replaced your thermostat. What it will lead to is a DTC for an open fan relay. Fan on temperatures need to be 20 degrees higher than thermostat. if you are running the stock 195, that means 215 for your fan on temperature.
Personally I do run a 180 degree thermostat in the summer and lower my fan on temperature to 200 degrees (20 degrees over t-stat temp). I change it back in the fall to a 195 as I don't want excessive time to reach operating temperatures.
Anyway, be ready for the CEL because it will be coming pretty soon.

i will post up if and when it does.
my high speed is only 5 degrees difference.. u really think it will trigger the light?? what if i just bump either the high or all up 5 degrees??
It did for me although it wasn't really that big of a deal, and finally I spoke to the lead engineer for Chrysler products at SC and he advised me on just as I posted. It could be as little as a week and as much as a month before the CEL would come on and easy enough to remedy. Just the same, any extra light is disconcerting and 15 minutes with a less than $10 thermostat lets you do it right.
I'll also note, that while you can get more performance out of the cooler temperatures, you really need to be in an environment where it's necessary. With the temperatures already starting to get cooler here I can see a drop in my fuel mileage because it takes longer to reach operating temperature. Going back to the 195 degree thermostat will remedy a portion of that and I'm not too far away from the fan not coming on at all anyway.

thanks jpop!! your definately a knoledgable guy. i agree with the cold moving in its pointless now. it also helped with a minor ping issue i have been having. and its not an exhaust rattle.. i fixed that a few weeks ago..
for my spring/summer use, do u bychance have the tstat # handy?? i am assuming its a standard for a 3.8??
besides a 180 temp..

Well, I wish I could say that I knew it before I fell into the hole, but the school of hard knocks pays dividends as well.
As for the part# for the 180 thermostat I don't know. I bought it at Summit Racing a few years back at an event and paid too much money for it. I think it was from Jet or the like, and not any different than a Stant thermostat for a third the price. The best way to track down the part# is to get the guy at the local auto parts store to do it for you, and often their part#s will have the degrees as part of their SKU#, XXXXX-190.

That's just a single calibration worth of data I am referring to. Our products store hundreds if not thousands of calibrations to cover Jeep applications from 99-2010. Then factor in those adding features such as Advanced Trans tuning, DAQ, TPMS, etc....
Trust me; the product gets filled up quick.

I wished I had read your post before buying the Superchip. Other than calibrating my speedo with my 35's, I see absolutely no performance increase. All my trips are up high, 8-13,000' and power runs out. I don't want to supercharge as that's an expensive solution. Guess the answer is 4.88 or 5.13's for my needs. Thanks for the response, apparently the low altitude dudes like the Superchips.

At 8-13,000 feet you are only going to be operating at 60-70% of the power that you would be at sea level. What that equates to is a 7 or less hp gain when you are under 3,000 rpm with a Flashpaq. If you want to move that pig, you are going to need to twist that engine and get some more air in there. What I am pulling at closer to sea level at 2500 rpm you would need to be over 3500rpm. A flashpaq on it's own isn't going to be the answer, in fact it might not be the answer at all.
Thanks Jpops.... just needed a little more ammo to tell the wife I'm spending $$$$ for 5.13's. Ordered today from Preditor Jeep here and they will have them in before the weekend. I do think Superchip is a solution to a lot of issue, so mines for sale.

OK just got my Superchips Woo Hoo. Put a full tank of 93 in and set the 93 tune, I only drove it around the block and didn't notice anything but i didn't get on it to good. My question is this, i've read through the thread some but there is just to much to read through and comprehend.
Whats the best settings for a daily driver. I'm on a main road, traffic goes anywhere from 45-65. I was in the advanced settings and saw a number of things. Stuff from the transmission to spark advance and yada yada yada. You all know what they are. I wanna have more passing power and better throttle response. I thought of putting it on the tow tune for better lower end performance.
Sorry if i'm repeating stuff for the 1000th time on here but i've never had a superchips and i wanna make sure i get these settings in the best spot possible.
EDIT: ok so i thought i would add this too. I'm going to be installing 35's soon and i'm a little confused with the transmission shift point adjustments. I have an auto so i'd like to get a little better shift out of it. I'm not sure i understand what would be a good setting. Anyone figure anything out to a good shift point setting too?
Thanks

What I was last told was that when you set your tire size it sets the shift points automatically. Now there is another advanced tranny program that you can purchase for around $30. I think.
