What would you like in a snorkel design?
Correct regarding the rearward facing intake..... still playing with locations. .. Here is another image... Still in the early development of the intake so please excuse the amateur look of the design. Easier to work in a solid media to figure out fitment issues before spending time rendering in SolidWorks. The more I do up front the quicker it can go on that side of the development. If we have a hard model that we know does not have fitment issues we spend less time and $$ on rapid prototype media. That stuff aint cheap.
The yellow circles show the two areas I'm talking about.

this looks awesome, I can't wait to get my hands on one
I go to brazil quite often. Those guys really understand off roading as they deal with some of the most unforgiving environments I have ever seen. Plus if something breaks... they are a long ways from civilization so nothing can break. One of the most common designs I have seen for a snorkel is a twin snorkel with a valve. The first one is right above the tire for cold air. It has the second one going into the cabin of the vehicle. When they go into water, they hit the switch, and the air is then pulled from the cabin. No cutting involved and nothing visible to the eye. Just food for thought.
